How the joint fails
When the Joints Are the Problem
Universal joints allow the steering shaft to operate through changing angles while transferring steering movement. As they wear, movement develops in the shaft. That movement does not always mean the shaft is finished.
Commercial vehicle parts can be expensive, particularly when a replacement is only available as a complete assembly. Where the joints are the worn part, replacing them costs considerably less than a complete steering shaft.
